Outboard Upgrade?

I have a Lowe L1648MT with a 15 HP Yamaha 4 stroke. Both are 2006 vintage. I am considering a motor upgrade to get a little better performance and would like to have tilt & trim. The problem I have run into is that Mercury, Evinrude nor Yamaha make a 20 to 30 HP short shaft motor with tilt & trim. BTW my boat is rated for 35 HP. I have seen where Tohatsu/Nissan make 25 & 30 HP short shaft motors with tilt & trim, but the nearest dealer is about 2 1/2 hours away. I am somewhat hesitant since I would prefer to deal with a local dealer. I would appreciate some thoughts and opinions regarding pulling the plug on the Tohatsu without local dealer support. TIA

I'd drive the distance. I hear you about local, my current pickup truck is a Chev for that very reason....nearest dealer. But I have read up on the brand, they make a lot of engines for Merc and others and seem to be interested on reliability. Might be that once you buy the engine you'll never have to go back. On parts, just call or email and he can FedEx them to you at home. No biggie.

I agree with Texas. I doubt you'll need much dealer support after you get it broke in. Normal maintain items can be ordered over the phone or on line and you can think ahead.

Yep, good reliable well constructed and priced horses. Do you think Mercury, Nissan & Evinrude would venture to exhibit their colors and logo on each rebadged Tohatsu if they were lousy quality ? Read your owners manual throughoutfully, break engine accordingly and you'll love that engine.

Happy Boating
