Six months ago my family and I vacationed on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe on a houseboat. We were warned to keep valuables locked up and I took special locking precautions with my boat. The reason cited was that at night thieves would come aboard and rob you. Fortunately we were not.

Yesterday I heard from a good friend of on his family members who also took a similar trip. Whislt at anchor in the middle of nowhere armed men boarded the houseboat and held them up gunpoint removing all they had.

Why can we not leave what is not ours?

Piracy is still a major issue in South East Asia. Last time I was in Singapore there were all sorts of news stories about piraates boarding freighters with machine guns.

All the more reason to move to a remote lake in the middle of BFE.

Have a supply drop once a month...

Build your own still of course... :p

H.

Oh yea piracy been alive and well for many years. Used to be mainly private boats and sail boats I read about but ocean cargo liners are big money. They kill the crew and use the boats (ships) for smuggling. Before reading the article. I think it was called "Piracy on the high seas" I would have thought it would have been hard to get away with big ships but I guess its not so hard to hide them.

hello
yep it happens.
and that is why wehave security watches onnavy vessels that go 24/7 in andout of port. I wasships security force soduty days I could not leave the boatfor the duration of the duty period, not even to take trash to the pier. endless miles walking with a 45, a whistle and 3 mags.4 on and 8 off 24/7 while underway in addition to divisional duties.
it is recommended to post a watch 24/7 anytime. anyplace and always.
good luck and keep posting
