Spent allot of time with a buffer this summer Buffed her out and re pinstriped her. Tried 3 M s fiberglass restore . Too abrasive for my likeing and couldn't get that final shine.. hard to work with.:(Then tried Starbrite fiberglass polish and color restorer.. That didn't ger er done either. not abrasive enough...didnt do it either. Then I had some stuff that I had bought to polish up my 77 Cutlass and tried that on the boat... Eureka !!! Its McGuire's Ultimate compound-- Happy Days. Easy to use no gritty feeling when rubbed between fingers. Used a random orbital buffer.. Started with the disposable blue applicator bonnets Gave it a few minutes with that. Then wiped the bulk of it off with a clean towel. Then followed with a terry cloth bonnet on buffer. and finally a wools lamb lookn, buffing pad. Then a coat of wax. I highly recommend it from my experience. Its a black bottle with a bright orange car hood on the front.
I wish I new how to put more then 5 pics on here so I could bore ya'all to tears. Stand by for some interior woodwork pics on another post.. Thx for lookn !!!:D

Curious 'bout something.... you said you waxed the boat. I just ran a long thread and took all the advice I got and pretty much did the same buff out to my boat. I'm sure mine was worse than yours though. All the advice I got was "DO NOT WAX" the gel coat. I was told that cloudy finish is the wax oxidizing.

Any idea how long this job you just did will hold? Any idea how long it would have held if you had not waxed it?

Interesting. no idea. I will have to wait and see...Maybe I will do a test strip somewhere and strip the wax off with rubbing alchohol or peroxide or sumptn. Runnin out of boatn season tho.... I have heard bad things about canuba wax, very temporary and cosmetic. I got some Mcguires w out canuba. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.....:D

Sounds like a great idea. Why don't you do that and take photos. I would like to see what your longevity is with the wax.

Wipe it with Acetone :) .. If acetone does not change the appearance then you should be ok :)

One time these outsiders came in to subcontract a buff job on a hammerd red 4 winns because I said it would take all day long for me to rub it out...

BANG 2 hours later after there "polish job" it looked sweet ...

There like " were done " and give me a smirk because I told them I was glad they were there doin it and not me ( Im not 20 anymore ;) ) .

So I got an acetone rag and walked ALL the way down the boat with it LOL.. there was a swath of Faded out gel that I left. I could write my name in the hull with an acetone rag if I wanted.

Of cource they walked off the job and I had to do it.

YD.
