I am repairing my tilt & trim motor on my 88 Johnson 50 bass boat. I bought a new tilt & trim motor with reservoir 9-18191. It did not come with the actual pump which was connected at the bottom with four screws. I spent some time looking for a diagram before I gave up and just tried to fix it. (My manual has an entire chapter on tilt & trim, but nothing on actual repair ) It turned out to be as simple as removing the screws and then screwing the bottom onto the new part.

So if anyone else is contemplating this repair I found it to be very easy. The entire system cost about $400+ on line. I found the Motor & Reservoir for $311, free shipping.

As a follow-up, as a newbie nothing is ever as easy as it appears. The trim motor comes with a harder rubber sleeve and an additional shaft piece. Mine didn't come with any instructions. The rubber sleeve is used to connect the two pieces of shaft together. Once I did that my trim motor worked fine.

Best Regards,
Eric H.

Re: Power Tilt & Trim Motor repair

Kind of hard to understand your situation when you don't tell us what motor you are working on and how the use of aftermarket parts relates to whatever it is.

The part number you gave looks like a Mallory part number - ? -
