Prop locked up

Hey My 1974 85hp mercury's prop is messed up I can only spin it clockwise in forwards and in neutral I can spin eather way but in reverse I cant spin it either way.

You might try un hooking the shift cable and see if it shifts properly by hand.

no we haven't got it in the water yet I was just wondering to we wouldn't get stranded in the middle of the lake

Put muffs on it and do it in your driveway.

Perfectly normal as the forward gear and clutch dog have ramped dogs (6) and reverse has just dogs(3)
