pulling motor- 120 horse mercruiser

I have got the motor up and out and I am going to pull the flywheel housing and flywheel to check and see if block is cracked or a freeze plug blown. My question is when I pull the cover is any oil going to run out into the boat? As you can tell this is my first time

thx Don. I have it all unbolted and the cover is loose all the way around but will not come off completely. Does the starter have to come off to. I am getting hopeful as I can see in and the top freeze plug is gone. You were not around when I first started doing the work but someone stole it two years ago and I just got it back a couple weeks ago.

I also should have added that I pulled all the nine-sixteenth bolts. Do all of the seven- sixteenth around the bottom have to come off also?
