I removed the six five eights nuts and put the throttle in drive. I can seperate the drive about an inch but it wont go any further. Is there something I have forgot or do I use a little elbow grease?

It may take some persuasion, especially if the alignment is off, or there is any rust and water in the bellows.
With the shifter in forward, and the bolts off, you may just be able to lift the drive a little and drop it. Just enough bang to break the loose occasionally.

Thx Don. I wasnt sure if the shift cable came undone on its own or weather it had to be done manually

Did you Unhook the Trim Rams ????
Loosen the front 2,+ remove the back 2 9/16ths" nuts,+ remove the back of the rams from the lowerunit........

If So,....... Pull Harder........

There's Probably Rust on the input shaft,+ it's hanging on the gimbel bearing..........

Try picking it Up to the top of it's Travel,+ Slam it Down............
That'll Usually break it Free........
