My 89 Johnson 150 GT is bad and i was looking for another motor. Mine has power tilt and some motors i have found do not. What is envolved in putting power tilt on one of the non tilt motors? Do you have to change the transom mount and can i use mine on any other boat motor? Thanks

Re: Putting tilt on motor

I had a 125 Johnson back in '72. Back then they didn't have trim, just tilt (PTT came out in '73) which I did not have on my engine when purchased. I went to a "seasoned" dealer (30 year vet) around '75 or so and back in the back dust room, he had a new tilt in a carton. It required some disassy of the manual tilt mechanism of the engine, but I was able to do it alone and it worked find. Not really a big deal.

Why not ask where you plan to buy it?

Re: Putting tilt on motor

any motor 1980 to 1990 should be ok and you can use either motors transom mounts. You will have to take the trim relay box off the old motor. Johnson Evinrude Outboard Motor Parts by Year 1955 to 2011 shows that 1980-1990 uses the same 0398110 trim manifold. i have swapped trim units between motors and not had any problems.

1991 is a diffrent trim and im not sure when the 0398110 was first used but you can search under diffrent years to work that out
