I got a few question for the Ohio Roundo.

How long are the parking spots at the ramp parking lot (Rig is 52')?

Do they allow overnight parking(all weekend)?

How safe is the parking?

Is it okay to sleep out on the lake, or does the boat have to be tied up?

Thanks..

Re: Question for the Alum Creekers

SS-
The parking slots at the ramp are pull thru's long enough for 2 trucks and trailers end to end (well most sized rigs). My Crew Cab SuperDuty is 23' long and we pull a 22' Baja and there is room for another rig behind us in the spots.
I have left the truck and trailer thre all night on several occasions without a problem.
You CANNOT camp in the ramp lot. The DRN will have a hissy fit.
As far as safety....well I haven't had a problem but you never know.
We have overnighted on the lake on several occasions. We anchor either WAY back in one of the many coves or North of 36/37. It is not legal but the DNR doesn't seem to car the least bit. The Marina does have daily rental docks on a first come basis. I wouldn't count on getting one.

SS,
I've forwarded your legal & security questions to the ODNR (from their website). When I receive a response, I'll post their answers here.

Man your digging yourselve deep here SS...If I was tied up ,fishn would be my last thought..Since your are near my age I would get a motel instead of parking(alot more private)..
I see Mod4 just did a poof on Tylerin But hate to waste type..
Since Brian has the reins I will desist from any mention of your Rig(boat)..I know Spinner is biting the bit on responding here..
But... When we meet you at the roundo,we are going to be on you like fly on paper... :D

Re: Question for the Alum Creekers

Your guys are worse than a bunch of women thinking about the dirty side of things. :D

First of all let me clear things up. I just want to leave my tow vehicle and the trailer parked while I spend my time on the boat. The boat will be in the water which my family and I will be staying on the boat over night in the water. I was just asking if the boat should be tied up to a dock or bank, or if I can just anchor up in the north end of the lake and fish all night.

Yeah Gonfishn, do you argue with an 18 wheeler when your driving a small car? You know I'm bringing my big boat. Hint... :D Just kidding, I only run over PWC's. :D

I didn't see what Tylerin posted, but I thank Mod 4 for just editing his post and not poofing the whole thing.

Re: Question for the Alum Creekers

Hey, I'm dealing with a government agency here... probably won't get a reply to my email until, say, June?!
I did go to the ODNR Div of Watercraft site yesterday, and copied down this particular regulation:
"ORC 1501:41-11-15 Sleeping on watercraft prohibited.
No boat operator shall sleep at night aboard a vessel adrift, at anchor, docked, moored, tied-up or beached on Ohio state park waters except in designated locations. Some parks have designated boat camping areas. Inquire about locations at the park office."
I know for a fact that you can 'fish' all night, if you want, and have done it many times. Also, there are designated boat camping areas on the lake, so that shouldn't be a problem. (I've never heard of the ODNR checking boats at night up there anyway)
Still awaiting their response regarding overnight parking (of course, if you were all-night fishing, what would be the difference??) and their security.
Stay tuned, guys!

I'll tell ya' SS.....sometimes it's tuff dealing with a bunch of gutter minded ol' gezzers :D :D

I got a good laugh, Brian, reading the part that said basically, "Don't sleep on the lake unless it's a designated area".

Now ya'kin' fish all night on the lake.....BUT DON'T GO TO SLEEP! Unless it's a place we tell ya' it's OK to sleep in.

Perfect example of bueracracy at work. :D

Re: Question for the Alum Creekers

Again, we overnight in the coves or north of 37 all the time and DNR ever said boo about it. My truck and trailer stay at the ramp and is always there the next day.
As for the idiotic comments by some posters.....

Re: Question for the Alum Creekers

SS, received this reply today:
Brian,
Yes, your friend is permitted to stay on the water overnight. Alum Creek has specific areas for boat camping and he would be required to utilize one of those areas. He is also permitted to leave his vehicle parked overnight in the boat ramp parking lot. The area is patrol regularly by park officers however break-ins to vehicles do sometimes occur. I hope this answers your questions.

Sincerely,

Mark J. Maxwell
Ohio State Parks
Law Enforcement Section
I take back what I said earlier about the response time of a government agency.

Re: Question for the Alum Creekers

Thanks BrianFD, Seems that during winter season those ODNR people have plenty of time on their hands. If you had asked them during the summer, the response would have been in October.

Everything is go so far for the weekend before Memorial Day here.
