i was either told this or seen it on tv, the reason bass are so white/no color after the winter months is because they were constantly in the deep water. can anyone touch on this subject?

Bass that live in deeper water get less sun light so they loose there color in the wintertime. It's just like the bass you see in a store aquarium that don't get the natural sun. It supposable doesn't harm them.

Yes it's correct!

Here in VT on Lake Champlain ..... the bass in the Northern end of the lake have beautiful color with clear water....... the bass caught in the Southern end are cloudy and dull since the water is usually so cloudy.

It is not just bass.
Many fish have the capability to adapt their coloring to the environment that they live in.
When steel head come up the rivers to spawn they change colors and adjust to the colors in the river.that is why we say lake run and river run. There are many other examples.
Most fish have pigmentation that adapts to not only the coloring of their surroundings, but many even adjust their color patterns to their surroundings, much like chameleons do on dry land.
It is amazing how creatures can adapt in order to improve their survival chances.

I`m with you.... except I have been bass fishing in almost 6 months. Waiting for the ice to go and the warm boating weather to return.

I`d take just about any color bass right now

Yep, the pigments on their skin get darker with more exposure to sunlight. It's funny that most creatures change their color for better survival but crawfish turns bright blue during their winter molten period. They stand out like a sore thumb.

First I've ever heard of a fish getting a tan!
