Hi, I've got a 2000 Johnson 30 HP with an engine that died in seaweed und wouldn't start for 1 hour.
That's why I checked the ignition coils and the stator, also the ground resistance of the two cables leading from the powerpack to the two ignition coils.
The Fluke digital meter measured around 30 MOhm
at one terminal, but infinite at the other.
That worries me a little bit, because I expect the two power stages in the powerpack to be equal.
Can this mean, the powerpack is wrong ?

Re: Resistance at powerpack terminal

what made you check the p/pack and coils, did you have no spark, if so is your eng remote start, key switch elimination test?, check the entire ignition system for a no spark sit. if the engine restarted an hour later, was it just flooded. id check the ign system just to be sure

Re: Resistance at powerpack terminal

Maybe the engine died from overheating, because after holiday I checked the water pump wrong (no tell-tale).
Maybe the SLOW-function of the motors was activated.
Normally one would expect engine revolution not exceed 2000 rpm but not engine die completely with SLOW activated.
I had another accident with the Johnson when I drove into a plastic bag, which had turned around the prop.
It resulted in an activated SLOW (2000 rpm), but just for 1 minute or so. Afterwards the motor continued running very well, as mostly before.
That's normal and easy to understand.
I couldn't believe the overheating theory first and a rest of doubt is still in me because one hour seemed much too long to me for normal SLOW-mode.
That's why I checked the electrical components.
I thought powerpack could be wrong during the hour.
What's Your opinion on the overheating theory ?

Greeting from Germany
Nordy
