Re: Steering leak/changing slave cylinder

It always amazes me that people seldom post a year of their boat. As if every 4winns 170 horizon is identical year after year.

No one goes to a Chevy site and says my Chevy Impala has a problem, they always give a year. But boats ????? Truly Amazing.

I have a 1998 Reinell 185 with a 4.3L Volvo Penta and we have noticed some light colored oil in the bilge area. Our mechanic said that the steering slave cylinder is leaking and needs to be replaced. He indicated that the part costs $795.00 and that in order to change it, the motor had to be pulled. The total estimate is about $1700 +/-. I am checking around for some other pricing, but does anyone have any other experiences with this? What are you finding out?
