Have a 19.5 ft Arrow Glass with a DT140 Suzuki 2 stroke. It is a Mid-V with an good size motor. It has set for a year, wihile I rebuilt the fuel and electical systems.

Have started the motor 8-10 times since i had it gone over and a rebuilt lower unit installed. Always on muff's. Should be able to get 30-40 mph.

The steering has gotten harder to move as time has gone on.

This weekend I took the steering apart. Removed the Big bolt on the right side. This is a Tilt/Tube with a cable through it, at the Motor Trim Pivot point.

Took off that bolt, had my brother run the wheel back and forth. Botom line, had rusty water running out of the cable split.

Want to replace it all. Cable, connectors and helm.

My Question is : What would be the best option for a new steering system on this sized boat, with this size motor. With this setup ?

What is Feedback, No Feedback ? How does each react and what is the difference ?

Thanks ya'll

Re: Steering Unit ?

I recently replaced the entire stearing system on my 1985 Ragin Cajun running a mariner 150. I removed the old stiff system and replaced it with a teleflex NFB (no feed back) dual cable system. Wow! talk about night and day difference. It used to take two hands and a good bit of muscle power just to trailer the boat, not to mention being impossible to stear at any speeds above 50mph. Now I single hand stear the boat with ease all the way up to 60mph. The only reget I have is not replacing it sooner. If money isn't a big concern, hydrolic stearing, such as a baystar or seastar system is the way to go, but for almost half the price, the teleflex nfb is a good choice in my opinion.

Re: Steering Unit ?

Thanks for the great advice,

Ya'll talked me into the NFB system.

I have driven boats where all you do is take your turn at hanging on and while constantly jumping the wheel back and forth, try to keep it in a straight line. Not as much fun as advertised.

Anyone have ideas why is shouldn't ?
