Re: suzuki cdi unit

If your engine runs but the timing is not advancing the odds are 99% that it is the throttle switch not the CDI. The internal diode in the switch, even if blown, will show the switch is ok with the standard DC bench test but when running it operates off of AC and will not work properly.

Re: suzuki cdi unit

how do i check switch ? or how do i replace? runs fine-perfect but wont throdle up , they said it was running about 10 hp,probably will run about 15-20 mph but dont seem to be throdaling up.have it on 14ft rino light. son has 20hp suzuki on older rino and i can't stay up with it .am willing to try anything already have 2200.00 in motor and it,s hard to put more in it.

Re: suzuki cdi unit

What else if not the TSS can cause timing not to advance? I am having the same problem but with a 1988 Exante (voice monitor) DT200 "V". It will not go above 1400 RPM. If I throttle up beyond 1400 the engine will act as if it is starving or flooding and die. Activating the choke or pumping the fuel bulb does not help. I will bench check the sensor tomorrow. But wouldn't a TSS failure cause the check engine light to light?

Is there any way to isolate the voice modual on this engine. Completely bypass it.

I also have found in my trouble shooting that the engine will start and run in gear, and that the engine will start and run with the emergency lanyard removed....Going to try to fix those to things tomorrow. DO you think either one could cause the throttle problem.

hello
keep with fridaysmarine. those guys are good. in fact the CDI I have someplace I bought from them several years ago. If the throttle switch is not workin on that 25 the timing wont advance. with no advance al you get is noise from the airbox and no power. I am still hunting for my CDI but lord only knows what box it got put in.
good luck and keep posting

Re: suzuki cdi unit

i,,m back again, still have same trouble with the 25 suzuki except it runs better but still slow, had to let it rest for awhile ,work got in the way. motor runs perfect but still not as fast as it should be, fuel compson is great but still need more speed.had it in another shop carbs.cleaned again they checked the throtle switch and said it is set on the high side(whatever that means)they didn't think it could be cdi as good as it runs.so i guess i'll try the throtle switch as i don't know what else to do.thanks again ron

Re: suzuki cdi unit

hello
did the timing ever start advancing?
the tss just feeds a voltage signal to the CDI to "tell" it when the throttle valve angle changed. the timing will adjust accordingly. I would have to go hunt down the manual to be specific. some used a sytem that advanced it all the way and others stepped it.
I found that CDI the other day.
but its doubtful that yours is bad.
they dont fail often
good luck and keep posting

Re: suzuki cdi unit

don't know if timing is advancing or not no one has been able to tell me,runs perfect but not as fast as i think it should, dealer also said it wasn't running as fast as it should but he don't know whats wrong with it,will prop make a big difference? it has a power tech. ss prop 3 blade 10.25inches in diameter 14 pitch. my son has a 25 suzuki with 1 carb.10.25x13 pitch alumn. on a rino built heaver than mine,a lot faster.

hello
its time to use a test wheel and a tachometer. what kind of RPM will it turn?
the test wheel will give it a known load so you can see if the motor is making power or not.
good luck and keep posting
