Hi all. I have a 6m speedboat with a Suzuki DT85 (85HP) 8501 Outboard circa 1994. It starts OK and runs well at gurgling and at speed. When it gets hot it is harder to start and often cuts out at gurgling speed. The local mechanic says this is a feature of Suzuki's which I doubt! Have bought the Seloc repair manual from Amazon. Any ideas please before I start dismantling.

Re: Suzuki DT85 Cutting Out

My suspicion , not being a tech though , is a bad diaphram in the fuel pump. Fuel is leaking into the block and causing it to run rich enough to kill it at idling , probably not enough to cause a problem at speed. <br />Have you got fouled plugs ? One post from a week ago suggested squeezing the primer bulb till firm, them holding it and seeing if it collapsed under pressure indicating either a stuck open float valve or leaky pump. Its of the age where a carb stripdown would be in order.

Suzukis are not supposed to run hot at idle (gurgle?) and quit. Something is wrong with your cooling system if it is overheating. Or if its not overheating something else is wrong. First thing, get a new mechanic. Second, tell us more of your history and what (be specific) it is or isn't doing and someone here may be able to help. My Suzuki DT85 doesn't gurgle it purrs :D

Re: Suzuki DT85 Cutting Out

Thanks guys. The engine had been recently serviced (well it is the south of France!). Cleaned out the fuel/water filter, fuel filter, and fuel pump. All were dirty and obviously untouched for ages. Engine now running much sweeter and not cutting out. Thanks again.
