Tachometer hookup

I have a 1985 60hp mercury with quicksilver controls. The controls have what I am assuming to be a five pin hookup for a tach on the front of the box. Does anyone know the pinout for this connection? Also does anyone know how many"poles" the alternator on this motor has so that I can set my tach to match? <br /><br />Thanks

moneypit...you can get a 5 pin tach harnes at your merc dealer..you want to use the black, purple and gray wires...12 pole alternator...
