Had to work last night and there were 29 officers on the road and we did 278 stops and not one DUI
no wrecks no domestic violence calls. This makes a fellow feel good. Starting the new year off right I would say.

Darn good way to start the New Year off bubba.

Up here in Ohio they've gone to a .08 blood alcohol for testing. AND....even on the first offense, mandatory jail time and say goodby to your license.

I stayed plum sober last night just to be sure all the kids got home OK. Didn't want or do I need to lose my driving rights. So....I designated my self as driver overseeer for the kids.

Happy New Year bubba. :D :D

Bubbakat Were you manning a DUI checkpoint? I know a lot of folks will disagree with me here but I don't like the whole checkpoint thing. It just bugs me that someone has the right to stop me for no reason at all and check to see what I am up to. I don't drink and drive because it is stupid, and also my livelihood depends on being able to drive a municble (sp) vehicle, I cant afford to loose my license.

It just seems like one more bit of freedom being taken away. I know some will say that even if it gets one drunk off the road it is worth it. But does this really pan out, I don't think so. Those checkpoints have about five officers at them, That leaves alot of roads with no patrolling officers where the drunks have free reign. The word gets back to the bars about where a checkpoint is faster than you can say boo. It just does not make very much sense to me.

.

I agree with you Flathead....I don't drink and drive either, but it does seem like an unlawful search....just another way our rights are slowly being taken away and turning to a police state.

No gentleman we had decided against ck points so we patrolled in force checking erratic driving and then proceeded with stops. As you said we don't want to infringe on anyones rights but we do want to remove drunks off the roads. We found a few drinkers but they had drivers and we didn't detain anyone no longer then necessary,

I'm with ya on the bs road blocks Flathead. It is my understanding that a roadblock can only be used for a felony stop where lethal force is authorized here in Texas. They always talk about them but I ain't gonna do it. It seems to me like we wouldn't have probable cause for the stop.

Kennethbrown, Not here. It has gotten so bad here that after you go through one checkpoint they issue you a card, then when you get to the next stop and you will if you have to travel very far you show the card.

I wonder what would happen if drove up to within a hundred yards of a checkpoint and then turnaround and go the other way. I'll bet I would get a lecture on how its inconveniencing them to have to chase me. How ironic.

Yes road blocks can be a pain, but drunks are a bigger pain. If I have to stop at 50 road blocks, but the life of a child is spared, my "convenience" came pretty cheap. Keep up the good fight Bubbakat!
