Re: Tired of Cheapskates!!
Yes Kenny I would still tip if it was that old and even cold. It's not the drivers fault. Just call the store and in our case, we would put you a credit for a free one next time or send out another one so long as you weren't an A-hole to us. We do this a few times a night usually if we're really busy. Often times, that is when we are busting are arse's out there and getting less because people tend to think it's our fault. We can only drive so fast and when it's so busy that your deliveries aren't getting out of the oven before they are 45 minutes old on an extremely busy night. It's kinda hard to deliver them out to the sticks any sooner. A lot of times, I'll call them and let them know it's going to take longer than expected. Maybe even bring them a free drink for the delay. Regardless, the driver still had to spend money just to get it to you. Wouldn't it make sense that the more deliveries in a night one can take the more money they'll make? Then why would we take our merry little time getting it to you. We wouldn't and don't. I'm always as polite as I can be and do my best to help the customer out. Since I've been working here for so long I even manage a little if necessary. If someone complains about it taking too long and I know they were told different I'll do a little something for the price or even sometimes give it to them for free as long as they don't come running out there cussing me and yelling at me. They do that and I tell them that we don't need customers like that and take the pizza back to the store. Heck, since my boss don't require us to turn in coupons, a lot of times, if I get tipped and they're nice enough I'll even let them keep the coupon and tell them to use it again. Even if it's for a free side or something. I go a long way to give good customer service. If they're cocky, well lets just say that if they don't have the coupon it's full price time. Flahthead, we still appreciate the buck, but regardless of how much the pizza costs, it still costs us the same amount to deliver it. I sat down and figured it up one time that it costs right at $2.00 for me to deliver one all the way out to the edge of our delivery area. That's including gas, tires, oil changes, and other regular maintenance costs. That's why I mentioned the $2.00 minimum. Also, we have insulated bags with electric heat "stones" to keep them hot. Matt, you're right about them not having to pay minimum wage. The minimum wage here for a tipped employee is $2.13/hr. There would be no drivers that would work for that. Roscoe, I know what you mean. I've had people like that too, just makes you wanna get a bunch of fertilizer and write TIP in their fancy well-manicured grass or fill their yard with oatmeal HAHAHAHA!!! I've not done that, but for some people I would've liked to. Skiuseme, our company has an insurance policy that will cover in the event that ours doesn't. I do have the proper insurance though. Just one more HIGH expense. Thanks for the concern. Not having the money is no excuse either. If they can order $30.00 worth of pizza then they can tip. They could leave off a side item or something. There's no excuse for not tipping. If you don't have a couple of bucks to give the driver, then you don't need to have pizza. You can buy plenty of bread and bologna at the grocery store instead. The only time I'll not get aggrivated is if it's to a house with some little kids and no way to get to the store. Even then, if they order a bunch of pizza or write a check there's no excuse. Brian, I'm always very careful when I'm delivering. I'm a pretty well built guy so they'd have to think twice before messing with me LOL. Also, we don't deliver to any bad areas. I work for a pretty good company that refuses to put us in any more danger by delivering to the ghetto. Now I know there are a lot of good people in the ghetto, but NOT worth the risk. Since I've been working there, I've only heard of someone getting robbed two times in the last 3 years. That's not a very high rate in my book. I'd say we have a better chance at getting robbed in the mall parking lot than on a delivery. Then again, that's why we don't go to "da hood."

James
