well ive had ongoing thread about tick in motor pulled flywheel no apparent
probs havent pulled intake . has 6 030 pistons and the bores look good ,
but no way to tell without tearing down would like to replace bad bearing or whatever and replace gaskets and reassemble 1981 evin 150 crossflow.
but parts are rediculus 27$ ahole for rings and 15 dollars for wrist pin bearings . if i tear down and damage is bad then i will spend 2000 to build on other hand used 150 is 1500 to 4000 and you dont know what you have because a simple compression check is not enough anyone with pros and cons on this please chime in because i dont have the money to buy new motor in near future but i could do rebuild over time .
thanks bennyb

Try powerheadkit .com to get a more realistic cost for a complete rebuild kit. Maxrules also sells them.

Just curious, apparently you don't know what is ticking at this point. Have you ever heard a "good" one run for comparison? These things are not as quiet as a car motor, for instance. I sort of doubt you have a bad bearing because something like that would self-destruct pretty quickly. Outboard bearings always make noise if you have an ear for it.

Was the flywheel tight when you pulled it?

How do the reeds look? are any of them loose?

With a flashlight and small mirror, you should be able to get a look at the rods with to piston at TDC...loof of blue rod cap or any obvious signs of looseness (I doubt this is where the proble is though.)

F_R: In his earlier posts, he describe the click along with a screeching noise. He had to forcefully pull the L/U due to it beimg seized in the crank. I'm thinking a bad lower crank bearing.

For two grand, I would be inclined to buy a professionally rebuilt powerhead. With the core refund, you should be able to stay in that price range and you will get a warranty from many of them.

I've seen complete rebuild kits through dealers on ebay for under $800

Re: to build or not to build

yes fr i have run this motor pretty hard since the tick it runs great flywheel was very tight .havent pulled intake yet to check reed blocks pulled heads again and rotated motor over on downstroke and pushed on pistons seems fairly tight , this motor was built 2 yrs ago 6 new 030 pistons in it they have alittle side play but its the same on all of them no scratchs on cyls
slight glazing on one cyl cross hatching shows in all cyls called the mech that built power head and he said that he used full bearing kit because of warranty on all his power heads motor has never run lean no pitting on top of piston no carbon .runs great comp # 120 125 125 115 ON GLAZZED CYL 120 125 GOING TO PULL intake to try to get better look no play up are down on crank no play side to side rotated motor over slowly and rotating *** seems very smooth no catchy spots .will dig a little further havent double checked timing if you listen in carbs with it running you can here tick it has spit back acouple of times in the past plugs are a little wet but non are leaned
i hate to have to build complete . because of the few hours actually on
power head hoping to hunt down and find prob with out taking power head off some of the power head bolts are rough willprobaly need heat to free them
these comp test were run dry after heads were put back on. they jump up
with alittle premix in cyls
thanks anyone wanting to throw something out there feel free
i have clymer manual its pitifull do they have a motor specific manual out there or some thing that doesnt cover so many motors because you have to jump back and forth for info. thanks bennyb.flaubam whats up.

Clymer manuals are junk. Get on EBay and search for an original factory manual. You might find a parts manual there too. There are some manuals available on CD and I hear that they range from good to just as bad as Clymer.
