When installing our new Humminbird Matrix 17 we were running the wires thru the hull and the one connecting the fish finder and the transducer broke. Its happened before and repair wasnt too hard so we tried it for this one too. So, we soddered it back together, put some shrink tape on it and figured it would work good as new. Unfortunately, it hasnt panned out that way. It works, but gives readings of anywhere between 900-1100 feet in 10-20 feet of water. And it shows no fish. Think we soddered it wrong or could it be somethin else? I'd rather not spend $60 on another transducer, but being as that we already installed it, we may have no other choice.

Re: Transducer Wires

mtr.....Did you mount the transducer correctly, if it's not mounted right you will get false readings. Also are you getting these false reading while drifting or when under way?

Re: Transducer Wires

The transducer cable is a shielded type cable. That means it has a woven wire mesh surounding the center insulated conductor. This mesh filters out any external electrical interference. If you don't repair the shield as well as the center conductor it won't work properly. Not an easy fix.
