Trim not working 4.3L Alpha 1992

Just put the boat in, tilt works fine,<br />Trim doesn't, can hear the motor humming in one direction, not the other (cant remember which)<br /><br />1. do I need to pull it out of the water to trouble shoot?<br /><br />Could just one of the wires to the stern drive be bad, I remember there is a sender on ea side with 2 wires going in ea.?<br />thanks

the same pump does everything <br /><br />all your testing can be done on the trailer or in the water unless you find its the trim limit switch thats bad this can be buypased in the water for testing<br /><br />you need to get a manual or at the least a wireing diagram it could be a bad conection in a lot of places ,trim limit switch ,ect,ect<br /><br />the good news is that your pump is running and pumping<br /><br /><br />tommays

Can you get it all the way down with the trim button? All the way up with the tilt? Can you get all postions, but the trim button doesn't work going up, you must use tilt?<br /><br />Tom is right, but I would take a quick look into the control. If you have the Quicksilver 3000, I have had my up trim wire come loose from the switch inside twice. Not too hard to take a look.<br /><br />Also, if what I described in the beginning is correct, you can run your boat semi-safely like this. As long as you can tell what position your drive is in (trim gage or a good ear) just don't run it up any higher than you normally would while underway.

Thanks for the quick replies, <br />itis all the way down, tilt works compl etely<br />trim doesn not work up<br />a few yrs ago, I had shredded wires near the trim switch and I cut and spliced them, maybe they came apart.<br />today I used the manual to troubleshoot, and I only get partial continuity across the sender leads when I jump them, so i guess bad wires or switch<br />will pull the boat tomorrow and ck possibly resplice/solder- will ck out Quiet cats loose wire issue<br />thanks

Update,old splice broke in 1/2 soldered this one and all is well, no problem w/in the switch<br />thanks<br /><br />repair tech says to fix it right, should drop lower unit and rewire, not splice, but this was 350 -400 cheaper. May be next time
