Re: trolling motor plug

procraftmark,

The three prong plugs were for 12/24 volt motors. You could use them for 12V only motors and many did.

If your new motor only has two, you'll have to determine which two of the three are actually going the battery.

Re: trolling motor plug

procraftmark,

Sorry. OK, I'm going to assume you have two batteries and you have a 12/24V system.

One lead will go to the negative post of one battery. Say batt. #1.

One lead will go the positive terminal of batt. #1.

One lead will go to positive terminal of batt. #2.

You will need a jumper lead from the positive terminal of batt. # 1 to the negative terminal of batt. # 2.

Well mark, you need to figure out what you really have.

Is your Powerdrive a 12/24V motor Or is it a straight 24 V motor?

Re: trolling motor plug

It's a straight 24 volt motor. All you need is 2 wires. Find out which 2 wires are going to the batteries and wire your battery plug accordingly, using only 2 of the wires.

Re: trolling motor plug

ok does that mean I should find out which of the 3 wire go to the batteries and then get a plug that fits in my receptacle and hook up to the pins on the plug that will match up with the 2 leads in the receptacle that go to the batteries?

mark

Re: trolling motor plug

The 3rd would have been wired in for 12 volt operation. Many of the recepticles have 3 wires from them, but are not nessesarily hooked up. This was the case with my boat and the 3rd wire was just tucked inside the loom and not hooked to anything.
