Underpowered 22' Crestliner??

I blew a piston on a 115 horse V-4 - Evinrude. I typically run the boat heavily loaded. Am I underpowered and if I rebuild should I expect the same problem?

fasteddy,<br /><br />You might be.<br /><br />There are several variables to take into account.<br /><br />1. What is your boat rated for-HP? I like to power boats to at LEAST 70% of their rated capacity.<br /><br />2. What top rpm was your engine cpable of achieving? A heavily loaded boat can benefit greatly by going down in prop pitch. A perfect example is a houseboat.<br /><br />3. Would your engine easily plane the boat? If not, look at number 1 & 2.

How heavy is your boat, and how heavy is it when loaded down? It sounds to me like it is probably underpowered. I had a 17 foot boat with a 115 on it and I'm sure your is alot heavier than a 17 foot boat.

The boat planes quite readily with one or two people but significantly slower with 4 or more - I get about 5300 rpm at WOT<br /><br />Net weight for boat is 3300 lbs - its aluminum - with kicker moter - two downriggers- dual batteries - extra gas tanks and all my junk I am sure I add an extra 700 lbs -- before people.<br /><br />I believe the rated HP is 150

Drop some of the weight you are hauling or move it up front, if possible, and drop 2-4" in pitch in your prop. Your RPM's are too low. That should help. Of course, so would a 150 HP!
