Ok I was on the wooden deck getting the grill ready. I go back inside the house to get the lighter fluid etc. I get back to the door and see 4 wasp in the middle of the deck. They were not flying. Around 4 or 5 feet away from the grill. So I go get some fogger out door bug spray. Problem, I had left the grill open minutes earlier. So I don't want to fog the grill. So I gently go out the door toward the grill and I THOUGHT keeping a safe distance from the wasp. Grill was 5 feet from the door. One zips at the speed of light over and pops my knee!. Then my legs are surrounded by wasp! I have on swim trunk. What happen to our agreement? We leave them alone and so they leave us alone? Turns out the paper nest was under them under the deck. I guess they didn't like my walking on MY deck. Too close to the nest? I didn't walk on them. I had on a orange swim trunks?. Maybe they don't like Orange? Funny how they were all just sitting there waiting on me. That had to take some thought and planning LOL. Oh well, I went on a wasp azz kicking rampage after that--babies and all. Never have I been attacked for no good reason. Obviously there is a more vicious breed of wasp out there these days. Sure has made me jumpy LOL

Re: Wasp Attack!!

I HATE WASPS, little @#$%#$%%@#

Two tricks I use, first do a rotisserie chicken with the pan under to catch the drippings.
They will go for the fatty liquid, and drown in the water and fat, definete two thumbs up on that one except for when you have to get rid of the fatty water in a week because it stinks, small price for a big kill ratio. :D

Use a medium brown paper bag, inflate it, twist the top so it looks like a hive.
Tie string around the top and hang it from the eaves, they don't like competition.
Ok of course the pop bottle with sugar water trick. as well.

Re: Wasp Attack!!

I've read that they release a pheromone or something when they sting that tells their BFFs to come pop you. They used to light on the kiddie pool and get a drink until I put a few drops of dishwashing detergent in the water to weaken the surface tension. Down they go.

Got a nest in a 2nd story eve that you can't hit? Take some small mirrors and the kid's play-doh and angle the sun onto the nest. The adults will fly off blind but the nest and the next gen. will be toast. Like the anti-aircraft version of frying ants w/a magnifying glass.

Re: Wasp Attack!!

I had a similar wasp incident as well (without the stings). One of my kids had a party on the deck. I noticed 3-4 wasp hanging around the railing and on the deck boards. No big deal, we swoshed them away. The next day I noticed several more in the same area. Hmmmmm I took my wifes small make-up mirror and peered under the deck and sure enough about a 6 inch diameter paper nest.... crawling with wasps. I used that wasp spray the shoots 20+ feet to kill most of them. Then I used a wire hanger to remove the nest. I felt luck that none of the kids got stung the night of the party as they were walking on top of the deck with the nest directly under them.

Just typing this is making my skin tingle!

Seems that Wasp are different than the Yellow Jackets and Hornet breed. You have to step on the nest or hit the nest. You just get near paper wasp nest and you are asking for trouble. As a general rule of thumb

We had wasps in the eve or out house. I was able to get a straw from the insect killer in the hole and spray. A whole can, but the nest must been deeper in the eve cause they still kept coming out.. So I figured, Silicone.. I'll pump that hole up and seal em in..

I got my ladder, set it up, grabbed my silicone as soon as I got head level I see a wasp sitting in the hole at the same time that sucker darted right out and got me in my lip.

The damn thing hurt. Swelled my whole lower part of my face. Hate them suckers.

Re: Wasp Attack!!

Was riding my mower and minding my own business Sunday and unknowingly drove by a small-medium paper wasp nest. Next thing I know I have these painful stabbing spots on my body and I had no clue what was going on.

Well, I hopped off that sucker and started flinging my clothes....threw my hat on the ground, my shirt in the air while I am flailing my arms in the air and hollerin like a girl. 5 wasp stings for my troubles.

Well, after things settled down I saw what the deal was. Now armed with my racquetball racket and a huge stick, it took me about an hour to knock the nest down while I ended up destroying 4 planks in the fence making it happen. I added a 6th sting, to boot.

The next day I was armed with my Black Flag super wasp spray I zappped those suckers who thought they could rebuild, and squashed half of the colony for their pain on me the day before. And planks replaced!

I feel ya, trust me.

Re: Wasp Attack!!

Just today I was building a deck for a fellow in town. Ripped up his old decking, and I noticed a LOT of wasp's flying around me. Looked under the deck and there was a 12"-14" round paper wasp nest! Those buggers were so mad from all the noise I was making. So i went up to the store, got the wasp spray and set to the task of destroying there little village! 3 stings later, they were all dead. I really, really hate those things!
