water pump on 4hp

new to this place and had a quick question..just bought a 1993 yamaha 4hp and was wondering if there should be a consistent water stream coming from the pump while in neutral...it seems to just spit and mist somewhat, but when in gear more water comes out...time for a new pump?????

hello yep and do the t-stat as well. most of the tiny mites had a t-stat on the port side under the exaust cover. some are a beast to change.<br />but if the motor is ok do it all and do it once and its smooth sailing<br />good luck and keep posting
