Water seperator location?

I read somewhere that you install the filter and then pump fuel into it. So I was wondering if it would be possible to mount it before the squeeze bulb or not? It would be handy if I could mount mine between the tank and the squeeze bulb but I will do what I have to. Thanks!

Thats where mine is, gp. I run both the main and kicker out of the filter/separator with no problems. I think the squeeze bulbs act as check valves and prevent one engine from starving the other when only one is running.

As soon after the tank as convenient for access to the filter.

The filter goes between the tank and squeeze bulb.

Okay Thanks! That will make it a lot easier for me to install.

I have boats rigged both ways. It doesn't matter what order you put them in (except I can't speak to a dual motor set up).

Re: Water seperator location?

I haven't decided on which water separator filter to buy yet. I was looking at a compact one from Sierra, 18-7965-1, but I can't find a lot of specs on it yet and don't know what size hose fittings it takes or how often the water would have to be dumped out of it when using a 50 horse Mercury 2-stroke. I would have never guessed that there would be so many to choose from. Anybody got any advice on which one to buy it would be appreciated. Thanks!

How often will you need to dump the water out...in 12 years on my current boat I have never found any water in the filter, but tomorrow it could be full of it, so there is no way to know. Any filter is better than no filter, and you can go from low cost to high dollar.

Ya hope to never get water in there,it will stop small amounts but get a lot of water,it will get to the motor. I still recommend having it in there though!

I never dump out a filter; I replace them. That's the design. I don't trust racor to have all the water in the bottom and none in the paper. Think about it.
