Hi i have a 1985 25 hp evinrude. there are a couple of levers on it that i found the names of but not real sure what they actually do. there is a shallow water drive link. what is the point of it and what does it do and also a reverse link. do i need to do something with that when going in reverse?

The shallow water setting is to tilt the motor out so that it can run in shallow water without hitting bottom. The reverse setting, I think, prevents the motor from tilting up when power is applied in Reverse.

Those explanations make sense, but I don't guarantee that they are bull's eye accurate for your outboard.
