I am a newbie at trying to get my 1957 Johnson Sea Horse out on this water this summer and I am not exactly sure on what type of fuel to use. I had read one posting that a 24:1 mixture should be used but I just wanted to verify it so that I am not using a mixture that is for another type of motor. The motor I had read this mixture for was for a 1961 motor, so I just wanted to get the correct mixture for my motor.

Yes-- I remember using a quart of oil to six gallons gasoline. These were plain bearing engines with no rollers on the big end of the rods and required a rich oil mix for proper lubrication. It wasn't until (I think) the 60s that Mercury went to "Full Jeweled Power" (marketing hype) and other manufacturers followed suite.

Re: What fuel mixture?

it could be 16:1, depending on what 57 seahorse you are running.
