What is this hose???

this hose has been cut.. it comes out of the engine but i cant see any obvious place that it connects to.. anyone know what it is???

1963 evinrude lark v 40hp... the hose comes out of the engine (opposite the side the plugs go in).. i dont see any nipples it could go to but i could be over looking something
