I'd got with the circular saw and a carbide demolition blade like a Diablo (Home Depot). It'll cut through 1/4 steel with no trouble - glass and wood won't put up a fight.

Sawzall with a long coarse tooth blade would be my second choice, but with those you always have to worry about smacking the tip into stuff and bending the blade.

I can def say don't use a chainsaw. I used one to cut up part of a 16' bowrider. It got so hot it ruined the bar. finished up with a sawzaw and a 6" angle grinder. made quick work of it.

They carry a few different kinds, one is called a framing/demo blade (Demo Demon) - looks more like a traditional circular saw blade but with bigger teeth. They also make one called a ferrous cutter that wil cut through just about anything, I use it for cutting steel plate.

The one you posted is for cutting cement backer board.

Get a couple of Lenox 6" rough-in sawzall blades, 6-12 teeth per inch. Spent years roughing in new duct systems in new houses. You could cut your house in half with those blades just buy walking around it with the saw in your hand. Any longer than 6" & you run the chance of bending them. They'll chew through nails, copper pipes, steel joist hangers, cut through a few steel "I" beams in my days.

Re: what method would you use to cut up a boat?

I cut up a few boats over the years, I used to use a sawsall but found it too slow, I then took a junk 7 1/4" circular saw and mounted it on a handle without it's guard and that was fast but you needed to wear a hazmat suit when using it and it was hard to control. I got lucky a few years ago and found an air powered 16" chainsaw with a carbide rescue blade on it. That thing cuts anything and fast. Its messy but fast. I still wear a face mask and dust suit but I can knock a 20' boat down into 55 gallon drums in a matter of a few hours.

A buddy of mine had a 31' cabin boat to get rid of and had no trailer, he took a tractor and rolled the boat over on it's top way out back in the field, then took a barbeque propane bottle, opened it, tossed it in and set off the propane filled hull with a model rocket igniter. The boat made a loud pop, and sort of felt flat. The shock broke apart just about every last piece of structure. He then just dozed it into a pile and loaded it into a dump truck. I was amazed at how busted up the boat was and that it didn't really make a huge blast, just a pop and a flash that was barely visible. There wasn't a single large piece left, it was almost as if the resin had been separated from the glass fibers. It broke the glass at every bend or corner and separated the deck and cabin as well in bits and pieces. We were a good 400' away when he hit the switch and behind a block building, I was expecting it to rain down fiberglass all over the place but it all stayed put.

I was going to suggest dynamite but that'll work too.

Re: what method would you use to cut up a boat?

ok, went up to my grandpa's place this morning and he's got like 4 generators (lol) and a couple 7-1/4" circular saws and happens to have several carbide tipped demo blades of various brands that he doesnt care about destroying in the pursuit of this endeavor. I wont actually get into the demo portion until after the heat wave is over though.

anyway, I took a video and yes, my video skills are horrible and I was using my droid phone for it. forgive my ADHD rambling and man, I forgot what I sound like on video as well :/

yes, I know my methods for future projects sound "redneck-ish" but I just got done helping a friend do something VERY similar and it actually worked (lol, he was my guinea pig muhahaha) so I know this will work in the end. I know that boat 350 is completely trashed but all the hard parts and the wiring are there so I can build a new harness and use the brackets/hard parts, etc.

anyway, here you go...welcome to my hell, and yes, I enjoy torturing myself. I've always learned by the "baptism by fire" method best haha.

Hmmm, I see several trailers with winches, a forklift, a tractor, a pick-up truck.

I wouldn't waste any time cutting those boats up, unless the dump won't take them as is.

And the aluminum boat will be recycled as breakage, about 9 cents a pound if you are lucky, if it is all aluminum that you haul in.

Personally, that is the boat I would be working on if I were you.

Fix the SVO Mustang, part out the rest.
And that aluminum looks suspiciously like an aluminum boat that has a cult-like following....you might get lynched if you hack it up!

Re: what method would you use to cut up a boat?

all of those trucks do not work lol. most of the trailers have frozen axles. I guess you could call my grandpa a hoarder of other people's problems.

It took me 4 years of body work during college (driving home on weekends) to paint it, then 2 weeks later an illegal rearended me. the purple'ish one to the left of it in the picture is the body panel donor for it.

the one to the right of that is my single turbo 5.0 with a rod through the block from me being an idiot one night.

is that really what that boat is? if so, anyone that wants to offer my grandpa recycle weight for it is more than happy to tow it off. if not, dont hate me, go after him but be gentle, he's really old and will sick his rooster on you
