What year is my sea horse?

I have a Johnson 5 1/2 hp sea horse. #'s say Model CD-12 and serial # says 1235797. It seems to run fine now with new water pump and such. I got this at an auction for $100 and put another $140 to get it tuned and running good but the gas tank is a leaker and from reading other forums, it is at least $100 to get a used replacement. I think I want to try and do the conversion to a up to date fuel cell set-up?

Re: What year is my sea horse?

Thank you for the quick reply. Where does a guy find that kind of info? I've been searching the internet all morning. I'm sure if I was more proficient with web searches I could have found this info by now. I came across a forum from this site stating a CD-12 as 1956. 55, 56, I'm sure that is good enough to inquire about parts and such when needed for service. What is the best resource for getting little parts such as the rubber bumpers and stuff underneath cover?

If your tank and connector leak, Repair them. This is usually the most economical solution. Parts are available. If you do a good complete job, the system may be depenable for another 40-50 years. If you do this job yourself then you know what you have, if you buy another used you don't know for sure. Most of the reason for the reasonable cost of buying one of these tanks that has been over hauled is the labor that goes into them (cleaning, painting, getting rid of the 2-3 gals of nasty mutated gas that is usually left in them).

Re: What year is my sea horse?

Bear, my sea horse is a shade of green color, unlike red one pictured in attachment. It has throttle control on folding handle. The 2 dials on face of motor control lean and rich settings for starting and wide open operation, if I understand the instructions printed on cover. It seems to run fine, sort of, when I follow the instructions. I don't exactly do any pre and post season maint. on it which is probably wrong. What is the minimum I should be doing? Is it still a 55 or 56?

As stinky and Bear told you, your motor is a 1955. Basicly the same as the 56 with green paint. The rubber bumpers under the hood can be had. You will have to look for them. Try Seaway Marine in seattle wa. J.B. might hook you up with some links.

Hey, One more thing. If you will post your Email address I will send you a copy of a period owners manual. The one I have is for a QD10hp model. The operation and maintaince are the same as for yours. I feel this could be helpful to you.
