Where is the telltale; Suzi DT25???

Ok I am totally confused, bemused, and bewildered.

I have been working on a recently acquired DT 25 poking and prodding a threaded hole at the rear of the lower cowl in an attempt to get water to pump through, with no success

Must admit I haven't had a lot of time and no workshop manual, and any posts I found in searches said "Yes, there is a problem if your engine doesn't pee"

Ah, but, here's the thing; I can run this engine for 30 minutes in the tank and still touch all the powerhead without heading for ER?
She's pumping water out through two holes just below the transom bracket and out through the above water exhaust; all sources run lukewarm.

Today I decided to take my time and in a brightly lit workshop discovered that there is a hole in the starboard side lower cowl where I suspect the telltale was supposed to be. It still has factory blue paint intact on it so looks like it was never used. There is nowhere on the powerhead for a "take-off" to flow water out to this hole.

Is it possible that I have an engine that never had a tell-tale???

Or has a previous owner/mechanic "blogged" the system for some bizarre reason???

Any answers very gratefully received as it's driving me nuts and I am scared to use this engine at sea until I am sure I'm not going to have row home!

What year is your motor? My 89 DT30 has a tell tale on the starboard side. It connects directly to the powerhead.

1970's is my best guess, Boatster. Like I say, I can see where the hole in the lower cowl is for a telltale; it just doesn't ever seem to have been used???
There are no tappins in the powerhead that I can find to plumb into and she seems to run fine in the test barrel; perhaps I should try her on a small lake first so that I don't have so far to row/walk home??
thanks for the reply

Hi,
Maybe check DT25 parts list at http://www.brownspoint.biz (You must register).
I believe 1977 is the oldest DT25 they have parts list for (it is PDF file).

I had a Suzuki DT65 before and the tell tale rubber tube is very short as You can see in the picture below.

It is possible that Your DT25 should not have a tell tale rubber tube since it seems there is no water tube outlet on the powerhead (but I doubt).

Good luck!

Many of the older models did not have a tell tail.

They would however release water (after the thermostat opens) along with exhaust bypass out the big hole below the power head centrally located in the upper midsection.

Thanks for the responses: great to know that there are other people who are willing to help when my "grey matter" fails to cool down!

I decided that the engine probably never had a telltale fitted and then sold it!

It was running fine and it came with a boat so I guess the guy got a good deal!

thanks again
