Yamaha 150 not shifting

I recently serviced the water pump on my 1990 150 Yamaha and now it won't shift into gear. Any ideas??

You missed the shift shaft when you put the lower unit back on. Or your luck ran out and the shift shaft that runs from the power head to the lower unit is broken. Take a screw driver and see if you can move the shift shaft right above the top of the lower unit there is a cut out. If its loose you missed the shaft. You need to line the shift shaft up where you install the lower unit.

That was the problem, I pulled the lower unit and found the upper gear shaft flopping in the wind!
