Transducers How-Tos

What is a Transducer?

A transducer is a device that sends out sound waves which bounce off targets such as fish or lake bottoms. When the signal is reflected back to the transducer, images are formed. It also determines depth by measuring the time it takes for the sound wave to return back to the device. There are many types of transducers, but they all work off the same principle. Working in concert with the console, or fish finder, this information is processed into a picture of what lies beneath the boat.

There are a wide variety of transducers. When you need more information or greater performance, a multiple element transducer provides greater sensitivity. By adding additional elements, it creates a greater depth of information for the fish finder.
