Hawk Epoxy Sizing System

Ensure mixture accuracy with Hawk Epoxy's Sizing Color-Coded System. Hawk Epoxy is available in four system sizes which are color-coded on each resin and catalyst label. Mix ratios vary depending on which catalyst is being used. For optimal product utilization, be sure to choose the same system size for both the resin and the catalyst. Any of the six fillers can be used with any combination of Hawk Epoxy Resin and Catalysts, giving you an incredibly large range of epoxy blends, all within this one system.

Hi I’m Eric Norrie, owner of Sea Hawk Paints and today we are going to use Hawk Epoxy to bond hardware to your boat.

Prepare the mounting surface area and the base by sanding them into a rough surface, which gives the Hawk Epoxy gripping strength.

Wet out the hole with properly prepared Hawk Epoxy and allow a few minutes for the epoxy to soak in. Wet out the hardware base and mounting surface area with properly prepared Hawk Epoxy. Add F2 structural adhesive filler to prepared Hawk Epoxy resin. Coat the bottom of the hardware base, screw threads and mounting surface area with the epoxy and filler mixture.

Put the hardware in position and tighten the screws until some of the epoxy and filler mixture comes out around the base of the hardware. Use the excess mixture along the base of the hardware for additional bonding strength.

Allow the epoxy and filler mixture to cure overnight before using the hardware. Now that your hardware is bonded properly with Hawk Epoxy, it is ready for you to use.

Hawk Epoxy fiberglass cloth and mat application

Hawk Epoxy Fiberglass Cloth and Mat Application (Video)

How to use Hawk Epoxy Fiberglass Cloth and Mat Application, presented by Sea Hawk. ... read more

Fiberglass cloth, mat, bi-axals and cloth tapes are used for constructing boats, planes, cars and many other commonly used items. It is also used for strengthening structures that have weak areas or areas that have been damaged. The flexibility of Hawk Epoxy is that it can be used on items made not only of fiberglass but also made of wood, metal, concrete, many types of plastics and carbon fiber.

This is the proper technique for applying fiberglass materials with Hawk Epoxy. Clean the repair area with S80 Wax and Grease Killer to remove all grease, wax, dirt and surface material. Make sure the area is fully dried prior to moving to the next step.

If the surface area to be repaired is smooth, sand the area to ensure good adhesion of the fiberglass and epoxy. After sanding, clean the area again with acetone to remove all dust. Cut the fiberglass cloth or mat to fit the repair area. The Hawk Epoxy system has pumps for the resin and catalysts that measure precisely the proper ratio of resin to catalyst. Equal pumps of resin to catalyst will result in the perfect mix every time. Prime the pumps first to ensure that no air remains in the pumps. Mix the resin and catalyst for 1 to 2 minutes, ensuring that all the materials from the side and bottom of the mixing container are mixed in. If you aren’t using the Hawk Epoxy pumps, follow all the mixing rations on the back of the Resin can.

It is recommended to brush a light coating of mixed resin onto the repair surface area prior to laying the fiberglass cloth or mat down. Lay the fiberglass cloth or mat over the repair area and pour the mixed hawk epoxy onto the center of the fiberglass cloth or mat. Using a plastic spreader, squeegee or fiberglass roller, slowly spread the Hawk Epoxy over the entire area of fiberglass cloth or mat. If the repair job is being applied to an angled or vertical surface, apply the epoxy with a brush or roller. You must use enough Hawk Epoxy to completely soak the fiberglass cloth or mat completely through to the repair surface. The fiberglass cloth or mat will become completely transparent when enough Hawk Epoxy has been applied. Continue to gently swipe the area in long overlapping stroked to remove excess epoxy and achieve a smooth surface repair area. Use a fiberglass roller to eliminate all air pockets underneath the fiberglass cloth or mat.

After the initial cure, when the Hawk Epoxy is still tacky, apply another light coat or two of hawk epoxy to fill any voids that may have been left in the fiberglass cloth or mat. If a second layer of fiberglass cloth or mat is needed, apply it when the first layer is tacky but not completely dry. Apply additional layers as needed for thickness. Allow the Hawk Epoxy to completely cure. When this procedure is followed, results will be an extremely strong Hawk Epoxy repair area.
