Thanks to the Quick-connect feature, the steering system can be easily and quickly installed.

Features of SeaStar Xtreme Reduced-Effort Mechanical Steering Package:

  • Smooth and low steering effort
  • Quick-connect feature for easy and fast installation
  • Small footprint allows installation in small/tight dash helm stations
  • Includes a new helm, high-efficiency XTREME steering cable and new style bezel

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will this helm fit the same cutout as my old rotary helm?
A: Yes, this new helm fits the same cutout as a current standard or tilt rotary helm.

Q: Will the SSC62 or SSC61 steering cable fit this new helm?
A: No, the SSCX64xx is the only cable to fit this helm.

Q: Why do I need a new cable?
A: The SSCX64 cable is required to provide low-effort steering with minimum backlash.

Q: What bend radius is needed for this new cable?
A: The SSCX64 cable requires the standard 8 inch bend radius.

Q: What benefit will this new helm provide?
A: Lower effort to turn the steering wheel in larger HP boats such as an outboard boat with a large amount of the hull in water contact.

SeaStar Solutions presents the new Xtreme Steering System. Defines the new features of the highly efficient and smooth new steering system. Made in the USA.

Video Transcript

The new Xtreme Steering System by SeaStar Solutions brings a new level of smooth, effortless handling, and precision control to an important class of boats. This advanced, American-built, mechanical steering system will enhance the driving experience and operational control of a wide range of outboard-powered boats, including aluminum fishing boats, pontoons, flats, skiffs, and more.

Xtreme Steering is ideal for outboard engine applications, and is the perfect replacement for current inboard mechanical systems, up to 34 feet with one engine.

This complete new steering system includes a new helm, featuring a dashboard mounted gear box to which the steering wheel is mounted, a new style bezel, featuring a dashboard trim that covers helm-mounting hardware, and a high efficiency extreme cable, featuring a push-pull cable transferring motion from helm to tiller arm and rudder.

It is also available with sport or sport plus tilt mechanisms.

The unique Xtreme cable features industry-leading Xtreme technology, and delivers a remarkably smooth travel and efficiency, a significant improvement over traditional cables.

Designed specifically for this system, the brand new Xtreme Steering cable offers lower backlash and more efficiency than a standard steering cable. Splined ridges on the inner liner provide the lowest ease of effort, a close fit of the core to liner for lowest lost motion. The concept provides the tight fit of core to liner, for minimal lost motion, yet allows area for lubrication. Minimal contact allows the core to glide freely. The design of the helm allows higher loads to be placed into the cable. A quick connect feature on both the steering cable and spin travel tube allows easy, quick installation. Reduced friction provides an extended cycle life, while its robust construction supports the highest steering loads in the mechanical range.

The patent-pending helm features a complete new gear train, designed to provide a smooth feel, minimal backlash, and low effort at the wheel. It also offers the smoothest no feedback clutch release, and a smaller footprint than the current 4.2 helm. All castings are designed to reduce weight while offering superior strength.

The new style patent-pending bezel component keeps with the design of the SH91900 tilt and hydraulic helm pump designs. A quick connect feature on both the cable and spin travel tube side makes installation easy. You will notice the normal steering cable installation side marked on the casting for easier identification. No tools are required to snap the steering cable or spin travel tube in place, which means quicker installation for the boat builder. The new system fits the standard SeaStar Solutions dash cut out with standard Safe-T and 4.2 bracket. The custom helm is also available with the SH91800/SH91900 tilt mechanism.

The total Xtreme Steering System was designed in the USA by SeaStar Solutions engineers, members of the technical committees to ABYC. Designed and modeled on CAD Software confirmed its performance and ensures the best design practice. All molds, tools, and assembly machinery are built and assembled in North America by skilled machinists. The Total Helm, Bezel and Cable system are assembled and shipped from our USA, Limerick, Pensylvannia, manufacturing facility. Customer and technical support staff are in North America.
