The new Xtreme Steering System brings a new level of smooth, effortless handling and precision control. This advanced American-Built mechanical steering system will enhance the driving experience and operational control of a wide range of outboard powered boats.
The SSX177 XTREME cable
A brand new XTREME steering cable was designed specifically for this system. This cable offers lower backlash and is more efficient than a standard steering cable.
It provides the lowest ease of effort, a close fit of the core to liner for lowest lost motion. The concept provides the tight fit of core to liner yet allows area for lubrication.
The NEW Helm
The patent pending helm has a complete new gear train designed to provide smooth feel, minimal backlash and low effort at the wheel. It also offers the smoothest no feed back clutch release and has a smaller footprint than the current 4.2 helm.
All castings are designed to reduce weight while offering superior strength.

A: Yes, this new helm fits the same cutout as a current standard or tilt rotary helm.
Q: Will the SSC62 or SSC61 steering cable fit this new helm?
A: No, the SSCX64xx is the only cable to fit this helm.
Q: Why do I need a new cable?
A: The SSCX64 cable is required to provide the low ease of effort and minimum backlash.
Q: What bend radius is needed for this new cable?
A: The SSCX64 cable requires the standard 8 inch bend radius.
Q: What benefit will this new helm provide?
A: Lower effort to turn the steering wheel in larger HP engines or boats such as an outboard boat with a large amount of boat hull in the water.
