Skeeter has been building boats for over 70 years. Holmes Thurmond built the first one in 1948. It was a 13-foot bass boat made from marine plywood with a flat bottom. It became known as Skeeter because of the long, needle-shaped nose that looked like a mosquito. From there it became one of the first boat builders to use fiberglass construction. They were built so durable that some of those early models can still be found in parts of the South today. Skeeter says its name was on the first bass boat including the first U.S. Coast Guard Approved bass boat. In the 1990s it introduced its ZX series which is still being built today. It also introduced its first saltwater bay boat in the 90s. During this time period walleye fishing tournaments were growing in the northern United States. Skeeter knew anglers there needed a boat to handle the huge bodies of water up there. This is when it developed its Deep V models that are still in production. All Skeeter boats meet National Marine Manufacturer Association certifications. It builds its boats to be standing in the winners circle of a fishing tournament. So, when you get a Skeeter you know you are getting one of the best engineered vessels on the water.
