My 1996, will lose its prime( bulb goes soft) when running at idle, no problem when rpms are up. Tank, lines, filter all new and tight. Fuel pump rebuild time? Suggestions?

Yes, it could be fuel pump rebuild time. But check the engine's compression to make sure it has adequate compression to operate the pump. I hope it's just the diaphram.

Classic symptoms of a weak fuel pump...time for a diaphram kit...

Just checked compression, good @ 125# on all three. Only found 1 site that had a rebuild kit but was unsure as they claim 1 kit fits all 35-120 HP force engines, True? Know of any other sites? seilers and iboats are no gos..Thank you for the advice.

Yes, it's true. Not only does it fit multiple
models of Force, but also the old Chryslers.
It's a tried and true design, and still works better than many "new fangled" pumps. And they are allmost FUN to rebuild these pumps.
The hardest part is getting the compression hose off. ( replace that too,by the way).

Checkout my whats the diffence bettween Merc75 and force 75 I have some urls. I have the same problem only it happens at any time going any speed. Fuel starvation is the probable cause I hope we can figure this out. Quicksilver is the right diaphram kit as this is just like the Mercury. Even after installing this kit I have the same problems. Could the vaccum from the engine be closed off with gunk or varnish.

MnF,
It's time for executing a process of elimination..What kind of fuel tanks do you have?
Regardless, check them for debris or water contamination. Also, drain the carb bowls, and see if there is any water in them.
If you do not have an inline fuel filter, you would be well advised to install one, because the "Filter" at the fuel pump is allmost useless. It's good for keeping twigs out of the pump, but little else.
You'd be suprised at how much goo is in "fresh" gas from the pump sometimes, and the inline filters stop 80-90% of it from reaching the pump.
Also, check your tank vent, by unscrewing the cap a bit while underway. If perfomance improves, the tank is not venting.
Pump the primer bulb when symptoms occur. This will tell you whether or not the fuel pump is pumping. If the primer-squeezing improves performance, the pump is not working properly, or there is an air leak in the fuel line, or restriction in it.
