I HAVE A PROBLEM THAT STARTED LAST SEASON, AND IT STILL IS HAPPENING THIS YEAR.MY OUTBOARD, 1987 FORCE 125 IS HARD TO START. IT TAKES ABOUT 10 MINUTES OF PLAYING WITH THE CHOKE,AND THE START UP POSITION ON THE THROTTLE CONTROL. WHEN IT FINALLY STARTS, IT SEEMS TO RUN O.K. IF I SHUT IT DOWN AND START IT LATER, IT STARTS FINE. IT ONLY SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WHEN IT IS DEAD COLD.IF IT WAS SOME MAJOR PROBLEM WOULDN'T IT START HARD ALL THE TIME? THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

Re: annoying problem

The best way to start a cold outboard (Non-EFI).

Lift the cold start lever, or dis-engage gears and advance throttle.

Push and hold choke botton, or push key in and hold in

Turn key to crank and continue until it fires and let the choke go and bring the RPM's down to about 1300 - 1600 until warm.

I hope this helps.

Craig

Re: annoying problem

Gas could be bleeding back out of the carb Be sure check valves are working.I beleave there is one in bulb and possibly one in the tank. If you have a prime bulb squeeze until hard.Look under hood be sure choke is working correctly when activated. Good luck, Spike

Re: annoying problem

a tip from my old evinrude, which would always take 20 or more solid seconds of cranking before it would fire..

I got an oil can, filled it with premix, and put a small squirt down all carb throats.. it fired straight away when I did that..

The evinrude had a hatch on the cover that was perfect for doing that.. but I doubt your force has...

be a good test though.. try it, if it starts right up, then you probably have a fuel issue of some sort.

rgds

Frank
