Impeller 1988 85 HP Force

How do I check to make sure the impeller is ok? The force is Model 856x8a. I have been having trouble after the motor has ran for awhile, the motor quits when idle back down, then did not want to restart. Any idea what could be causing this problem?? The impeller question comes because the force I had before this that is what went out and locked the motor up for good. Thanks

When did you last have the water pump serviced? Have you checked to see if the engine is overheating? Use your fingers on the cylinder head or a melt stick.

The motor was put on 2 years ago after having set at an marina for 4 years or so. The marina didn't sell force motors, and I worked there in high school so they gave me a deal. So nothing has been done, except new spark plugs. I have not checked to see if overheating. Would that cause it to die and not want to start??

How long does it run on a hose adapter? If just seconds, there's a good chance carb, fuel pump, etc are gunked up w/ old fuel. If it ran long enough to overheat (minutes), that could also be a problem. You may have to rebuild/clean carbs, besides confirming water pump and cooling are OK.

So the impeller that is in there is six years old.<br />CHANGE IT.
