Ouch.Thats a bummer. Hopefully JB or someone will have more ideas.
I just bought a '91 stratos with a '91 evinrude last fall and (knock on wood) no problems with either. Payed $7000 but it looks like I got a really good deal for a 21 footer with a 200.
I look on the used outboard site and evidently they don't list 120hp.115 and 130.
What's your boat rated for?
There is alot of websites with used outboards and they seem to vary quite a bit in price depending on where you buy it. Not sure how long you can finance those for.

X Force owner ,well still own it BUT, sounds like you may have a cracked block If so on an 99 model A Rebuilt Power Head is the best way to go, rather than replacing whole engine :( sorry couldn't be any help

Your 1999 Force should be no more difficult to service than any other 1999 Mercury product. Any pre "Mercury" Force engine may be difficult to service due to parts availabilty, however; parts for your 1999 Force should be available. If the mechanic that you took your engine to is simply telling you to get a new engine,he is wrong! I think that you should hold the mechanic a bit more respossible for the service that he supposedly performed for you. I would get a new mechanic before I purchased a new engine. He needs to exhaust all failure possibilities before he tells you to get a new engine. Ask him to explain to you all of the ways water can enter into the cylinders. Is there a crack in the cylinder block? Did he do a poor job installing the head gasket? Has the engine run hot and possibly warped the cylinder head(s)?
