Hi I am another newbee. My Force 50 starts OK. It goes in to the gear OK. When you increase power it goes and starts hi-idleing (looks like it goes back to nuetral disengaging from the gear). But I tried to look at the shift and do not see it is moving out of the gear. When you reduce speed it goes OK again (slowly). Looks like it goes in the first gear only. (not sure many it has). I took gear case apart and did not find anything wrong. Any ideas what is going on?

mine did the same thing before i got rid of it! i hated that thing anyway the guy i gave it to said it was the lower unit, he put another lower unit on it.

this is what it would do. put it in forward and it was fine give it gas and the engine would rev but go nowhere, back off and it would go back in gear. but give it gas again it would come out again.

Does it make any clattering noise. I suspect it has a spun prop.

90% sure your prop has spun its hub. There is a rubber bushing inside your prop that holds the 2 parts together. When you hit something in the water, or the prop gets old, the rubber hub slips. You can get it fixed for about $40. If you have a spare prop, now is the time to put it on.

Outboards have only one forward gear, and one reverse gear. There is no other shifting. The lower unit is either in gear, or out of gear.

Serg, I'd call it a 100% chance. These motors have a single prop model/pitch/dia. They are notoriously weak at the hub. This is not a bad thing,(unless you're 5 miles from the ramp),because it protects the lower unit. Most boaters using this motor, the Chrysler 35-55HP models included, carry a spare prop because of this. They cannot handle 'hole shots' worth a hoot either.
