force 90 stern

hi everyone <br /> i have a 90 hp force stern in a 17.9 ft bayliner capri. the problem is my prop is a 15 pich 3 blade my motor is reving it guts out at 4500 rpm, i was thinking of going to a 13 pich, i ask this question what is the open rpm should be on a force 90 stern drive, and if i do go to a 13 pich will it help, if not which pich would help<br /><br /> jonathan australia

Im not an expert on your stern drive but the<br />power head is based on an outboard power head.<br /> My guess is it developes its power at about 5,000 rpm.If you go with a 13" pitch your rpm will go up but will remain within the power range.<br /> The motor needs to run closer to its max rpm.<br />The 13" pitch will give you a better hole shot<br /> and better ski pulling power.
