Force leaking oil

I took out my little Waco with the 50 HP Force for the first time yesterday. When I was tinkering around with the boat this morning I noticed there was some oil leaking out of the water inlet. I'm guessing that's lower unit oil. Not a good sign. What is the most likely culprit for the leak?

Not that it matters, but here is a pic of the oil leaking out.

Drain the lower unit?
Is there any water in the lower unit oil?
If not, then it was over-filled and probably pushed out from the the shaft seal.
If so, then you already know the rest of the story.

Re: Force leaking oil

Its definitley got a leak. I opened up the drain/fill plug andI got more water than oil.

Oh, well. My seal kit should be here tommorrow. I suppose that will be a good time to repalce the missing water pickup screens.

I would check the gaskets on the vent and drain plug first. Then check the seal at the prop shaft where it comes in contact with the bearing cage. You can buy a screw and drill a hole in the middle of it, insert a basketball air needle and seal the needle with rtv. Screw this into the drain hole and blow some air into the lower unit while it is under water and look for the air bubbles.

If you are going to tear the unit apart make sure you have the manual with good pictures and instructions.
