Is there two different types of prop shaft bearing cages? It is on a 45hp chry 1969 model 4575 My manual states you pull one straight off and then another one you turn 90 deg. then pull off. How do I tell which I have. Which ever, it seems to be tight .

Re: removeing prop bearing cage from gear housing ?

Here is a picture of my 45HP. It is from 1967. I have it apart to repair the prop shaft. Sorry the picture is bad but for a 30 dollar digital camera you cant complain. Lower unit <br />You can not twist this 90 degrees because the top of the bearing cage is flat and if you try twisting it it will crack the lower unit. The correct way to remove it is to use a flywheel puller and use the two holes at 9 and 3 o clock to thread the puller into and then it pulls straight back. I got mine out using a vise grips to pull it back. Sorry I dont have the bearing cage to show but it is at the machine shop with my prop shaft.
