Is it supposed to shift into gear a little hard

Is it supposed to shift into gear a little hard when it goes into gear it seems a little hard when it graps same with reverse is this they way it is supposed to be????<br /><br />70hp force 1994 outboard

With remote contols, the cables could be a little rusty on the inside, making shifting more difficult. The control couplings need oiling as well. Unlike a car manual transmission, do not ease it into gear, but shift with a quick, firm push or pull.
