how long can i idle

Well i was out fishing the other day with my 85 hp Force, and trolled about 35 minutes at the slowest my motor will troll, well within about 35-40 minutes the overheating buzzer goes off, so i pull my gear out of the water and kick the motor up a few notches and it goes off. I know i need to get a kicker motor and that is the ultimate solution, but how long should she run at a dead idle before she starts to get hot?

she shouldnt get hot at idle..... why would it....<br /><br />you should be able to idle till you run out of gas<br /><br />looks like weve got a bigger problem now.......

I am wondering if i should probably change the impellor? Before I bought this boat it has sat for a good 2 years before being run.

Going from motorcycle theory here, you may be able to idle longer by turning your idle fuel screw out a bit to richen your idle fuel/air mixture. Richer runs cooler.

I think you may be right about that, in fact i think i just need to take the darn thing in and get it tuned up properly.

For the modest cost of an impeller, I'd go that route before spending a lot of money on a mechanic.

If it sat for 2 years, you definetly need to replace the impeller, as they become brittle without use. And who knows how long it was before that, that it was changed. That should solve your problem..
