It is my understanding that the "US Marine Power" name was used for the Force engine for the years 1984 thru 1986? I bought a 50 H.P. outboard and I'm looking information on it but not sure where to begin my search!<br /><br />Could someone please help me out?<br /> <br />Kevin T.

West Bend became Chrysler became Force. US Marine bought Chrysler and changed the name to Force. Merc bought Force from US Marine and kept the name. US Marine Forces were in the early to mid 1980s. I don't know the exact years, but I think you can add a few years to your range.<br /><br />The plant was originally in Hartford, WI and made Kissel cars and outboard motors way back before West Bend. I don't know if West Bend bought Kissel or just the plant. West Bend was more popularly known for pots and pans, but they knew aluminum. Interestingly, West Bends weren't ever made in West Bend that I know of. Merc moved production to their factory in Fond-du-lac 1990ish. All three comunities are rather close.<br /><br />That motor was made for decades from 35Hp to 55Hp. Most of the gearcases are exactly the same (I think there were only two somewhat different housing designs, but the guts are still mostly the same). The biggest differences were in the ignition systems. Otherwise they were largely unchanged for a long long time until Merc put the powerhead on their leg.<br /><br />One strange thing I've come accross when mixing and matching gearcases is driveshaft length. Some are an inch shorter than others. Three things are automatic whenever I buy a used motor. New sparkplugs, fresh gearlube, water pump rebuild. i have a 1990 50 hp force and it also has the us marine on the cowling(hope i spelled that right) to my knowledge they were already owned by Mercury<br />what is the model # of your motor?

if you haven't changed it, it may be the original, it is time to change it.<br /><br />its alot easier and cheaper than the alternative.
