Re: Mont. Wards Seaking 9hp

Hi Kdc
I have your motor listed as a 1965-1967 9.2HP. Interesting, the Sea King part manual I have just says 9hp. No matter. You my well have bad coils, I don't know. I sort of doubt it. I would sooner think the the points are corroded. Take some fine sand papper and clean them up a bit, make sure they are moving freely and making contact. See if this helps. Also make sure they are not grounded out any where (the kill circut?). If you need new points you can order them from Napa auto parts. For coils you will have to try your Mercury dealer or some place that deals Chrysler parts. I did not see coils available in my Napa catolog. I am going to think positive here, your not going to need them. Let us knoe what you come up with. Good luck.

Thanks alcan
I was not sure if they still made parts for this mod, I've check and cleaned the points they appear to be working fine. The kill swicth also appear fine i dic it to make sure it was not the problem. I agree with you i found it hard to belive that both coils would be bad anything eles i can check?

I found a dealer online last night sherwood@discount-marine-parts.com they have the coils @ a price of $88.00 each, points 17.95 each, and cond at 12.95 each to me that may be more than the motor is worth. Well thanks for your reply.
Do you have Napa part number for the point & cond.

Napa/Sierra part# for points 18-5161, condencers 18-5241, tune-up kit 18-5009. At 88 bucks a throw, I'd make my own first. Keep shopping around. I would have those coils bench tested before you toss them. Try the new points etc.first. If push comes to shove, hunt yourself up a set of used coils. I have many little motor projects that I set aside until I can aquire the parts for the right price. I will admit to paying $36. for a set (2) of piston rings for my chain saw last week. Three times what I payed for the saw. Couldn't toss it, still had a good bar and chain.
